Natalie looked at Brudtus, “You better fill up, big guy,” she said. Kailani turned her head and looked at Natalie.

“Bring me meat,” Brudtus demanded loudly. The tavern wench hurried away to the kitchen as the room slowly regained their mindless chatter. A handful of women left the tavern to spread the news in the way of gossip. Natalie returned to the table with the letter.

“I guess we have our next quest,” Natalie admitted confidently. She wasn't sure if the curiosity she felt that drove her to pick up the letter derived from fear or excitement, but she knew the reward would pay for her family's freedom. The possibility of failure washed over her mind, but was simply a passing thought. She had taken down dragons, trolls, and other world guardians without a problem. The tavern wench brought out a large metal plate with a slab of meat on it and set it down in front of Brudtus, who devoured it.

“You better stock up on arrows,” Natalie suggested to Kailani.

Kailani nodded, “Let’s eat some food, then head out,” she said as if it was her last meal.

“You go find Lucinda,” Natalie said, “and I’ll talk to Celestia.”
